Salt Lake City Workday – SLC, UT – Fujifilm X100F
I had an adventure in Salt Lake City a couple of days ago. My family and I rode the FrontRunner commuter train into the city and then hopped on the TRAX light rail train to traverse downtown. I captured it all on my Fujifilm X100F and XF10 cameras. These two cameras are both great for this type of trip because they’re small and lightweight and yet are capable of fantastic image quality.
Street photography is something that I enjoy, but it’s only been over the last few years that I’ve really gotten into it. Urban landscape photography is something that I’ve done off and on for two decades. While they are two different genres, they’re very closely related and it’s not uncommon to do both simultaneously, which is what you see in this article. If time allowed I’d certainly find myself wandering urban areas more, camera in hand.
Downtown Salt Lake City is one of the nicer urban centers in America. It’s clean, safe, pedestrian friendly and full of shopping, dining, entertainment and educational opportunities. It’s a great place to spend a day! It’s a great place to walk around with a camera or two, capturing the urban life and urban sights. It seems that I always come away with at least a couple of great images. There are a few photographs in this article that I’m particularly happy with. I hope that you enjoy them! I’m not a video guy, but I wanted to try out the video features of the XF10, so I recorded some footage and made a short video of this adventure:
Man, these are stunning, LOVE the tones on the color ones!
Thank you so much! The XF10 color images are my Classic Chrome recipe for that camera, while the X100F are a mix, including Kodachrome II, Velvia and an experiment with the Pop Color advanced filter. A couple of the pictures were edited with RNI Films, most noticeably the last one, but most are straight out of camera.
I’m gonna try the xf10 classic chrome on my X cameras, it looks amazing!
I can’t wait to see the results!
I loved photographing the LRVs going around corners with those multiple-car lashups. DART had some great curves, but nothing as photogenic.
The light rail turned out to be more photogenic than I would have thought.

I’d love to know your preferred set up for the rest of your xf10
I’ve been starting faith in mine due to the auto focus just missing most of the time. Compared with my x100s.
I want to be able to those capture family moments and love the fuji jpegs, so when a truly pocketable fuji with Classic Chrome arrived, I thought it was the answer. I’ve been on the verge of returning it but something is stoping me.
I want to love you little Fuji…help me 🙂
I’m going to give you recipe a go. Set the snap shot to 2m. Spot focus?
I use the snap focus feature frequently. You have two options: 2m and 5m, and how far the subject is determines which I choose. Anytime the subject is quickly moving (such as kids, animals or street photography) snap focus is typically the best option. If the subject is stationary, I will often auto-focus, but I go into it knowing that I have take my time because the camera demands that in order to be successful. I hope this helps!
