Rumor: Ability to Save WB Shift on X-Pro3!!

Fujifilm X-Pro3 Blog

I received a message from a Fuji X Weekly reader who’s also a Fuji X Photographer, and he has a pre-production X-Pro3 that Fujifilm has given him to try. He wanted to tell me that the X-Pro3 has the ability to save white balance shifts with each custom preset! Hallelujah! Those who have written into Fujifilm to ask for this, well, apparently it worked, because they have given it to you–at least on the pre-production model of the X-Pro3. Hopefully it will come to other cameras soon.

For those who might be unaware of this issue, when you program my film simulation recipes into the custom settings for quick access through the Q Menu, you cannot save the white balance shift that’s required for the different looks. Most of my recipes require a white balance shift, and you have to manually set it each time that you change recipes. It’s kind of a hassle. It’s by far the number one complaint I receive about Fujifilm cameras. Well, apparently, beginning with the X-Pro3, this will no longer be a problem.

That’s great! I hope Fujifilm makes it available for other cameras through firmware updates. If they don’t, I have another solution that I’ll tell you about next week, so be sure to watch for that. If you’re not already, be sure to follow Fuji X Weekly (look at the bottom-right corner) so that you don’t miss the article when it’s published.

This would definitely be the tipping point for convincing me to get one! 😮

Or pray to get the same function on the X-T3 new firmware 😛

Yes, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will come to the X-T3 and X-T30.

It might come to the X-T3 and/or X-T30, as well.

Yeah, but I’m partial to the x-pro’s rangefinder style so I might eventually bite the bullet. But if not, at the very least I’ll certainly upgrade to the x-t30 for the software improvements!

I agree, the X-Pro is the most beautiful digital camera series ever made.

Any Fuji camera that offers C1-C7 deserves to get that functionality.

It’s like offering delicious food and being allowed just look at it…

I agree, although the older the camera, the less likely it is to get a firmware upgrade.

Well I keep my fingers crossed for my beloved XE3…

      • Ritchie Roesch · November 1, 2019

I sure will, but I also have another solution that I will share next week, so stay tuned!

Thanks Ritchie! Now you made me curious! How can I get through the weekend now???

Just kidding… I will patiently wait and stay tuned!
        Peace

Woot. This is excellent news. The inability to save white balance shifts is an annoyance.

I hope they can give us more than 3 custom white balace presets if anything. An update to the X-T3 and X-T30 would be great!

    • Ritchie Roesch · November 1, 2019

Supposedly each C1-C7 custom preset can have its own white balance shift saved with it. Yea!

Interesting to see how it goes with firmware updates for older models. Has Fujifilm officially announced updates for X-T3 and X-T30 ie. models sharing the same sensor and processor, or is it just rumours?

I think Fujifilm wants to see at least X-Pro3 launch sales figures before updating older models on a par with it. X-T3 and X-T30 are already substantially discounted. Would be foolish to offer same features on a model half the price of a X-Pro3. Good share of X-Pro3’s goodies come in software. It’s quite more expensive than X-T3 too, and all for OVF (not that useful anymore), controversial flippy (autocorrect insists it’s “floppy”) screen and all that titanium durability (for a digital camera that is aged in 2-3 years anyways).

Unfortunately same applies for the X-E3 follow-up. Update is due, but they simply can’t afford releasing a lot cheaper rangefinder-style body soon after the fancy top model. X-E is at $999 price point, and might as well get the ordinary X-T30 -style screen with the next update. So there would be exactly as capable, but smaller rf-body without OVF and titanium bits at half the price.

I guess next we’ll see a X100 update with screen adopted from X-Pro3 and a new lens. Probably WR too. That could be set at $1799-1899 easily (think Leica Q2), and therefore not hurting X-Pro3 sales in any way.

I haven’t heard of the timeline of the “big” update that’s supposedly coming to the X-T3 and X-T30, other than it’s supposed to happen at some point.
I think those who would buy the X-Pro3 look at it and love it at first sight. I think it’s Fujifilm’s Leica in a sense. You’ll either buy it, and you know who you are, or you won’t. So I don’t think how well the X-Pro3 sells has a whole lot to do with the timing of the updates. In fact, it would make sense to release the update to the X-T3 and X-T30 this month so that there’s a new buzz about it just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

Praying for the other cameras to get the same firmware update!!!!

    • Ritchie Roesch · November 3, 2019

I hope every single X camera gets it in an update. But if not, I have a solution that I will share in a couple days, so be looking for that.
