Fujifilm announced that the X-T3 will receive a couple of firmware updates, one in December and one in January, which will improve the camera, but neither will include the new features of the X-Pro3. No Classic Negative. No clarity or curves or custom grain, etc., etc. No ability to save white balance shifts with each custom preset. There are a bunch of new tools that Fujifilm has included on the X-Pro3, but none of them will be in these upcoming firmware updates. That doesn’t mean they won’t make their way to the X-T3 and X-T30, it just means it’ll be in the spring at the earliest. And perhaps not all of the new features will ever be added to the X-T3 and X-T30. You might have to wait until the X-T5 and X-T50 (they’ll skip the number four because it’s unlucky in Japan), or buy the X-Pro3. I bet the upcoming X100V will have the same tools as the X-Pro3, so there’s that, too. I was hoping that Fujifilm would add the capabilities of the new camera right away to the two “old” models that share the same sensor and processor, but it looks like they’re delaying it for awhile. I just hope that they don’t delay it indefinitely.

Honestly I do not understand why Fuji offers three extra settings for WB reading/or manually setting a colour shift and not individual AWB settings in C1-C7…

I think it must have been an oversight, that Fujifilm never imagined that white balance shifts would be used so heavily. I’m glad that they addressed it on the X-Pro3, and I hope it makes its way to other cameras soon.
As for the three custom white balance settings, I imagine that it might be useful for those who have to go between several different lighting situations (think wedding photographers). You could make a custom measurement in three different places and know that you will have the white balance right.
As much as it sucks for users of other X-trans IV models, it makes sense from a business standpoint to give the x-pro3 a headstart in sales. If they removed already these differentiating factors, it would be a very tough sell especially considering that polarizing lcd screen.
I still think they will eventually push these software upgrades to other cameras that share the same sensor, it’s probably just a matter of time.
I don’t disagree with this, but I also thought it would make sense for a new buzz regarding the X-T3 and X-T30 going into the holiday shopping season. Anyway, Fujifilm doesn’t have to do any updates, so whenever they do it, it’s a huge bonus that I hope is truly appreciated by the users.

On the other hand I believe that buyers of an XPro3 are a diferent breed than other Fuji-X users.

Classic Neg. is signature look for the X-Pro3. In couple weeks when first units are shipped, we’ll see dozens of reviews from early adopters. All featuring gorgeous photos in Classic Neg. creating appetite for X-Pro3. Fujifilm would soil X-Pro3 sales in minutes if they release same software to older camera models. With all titanium bits, X-Pro3 is an expensive product to manufacture and Fuji needs all revenue they can get from it.
In January-February we get X100V. Another “pure photography” camera. As a fixed lens compact it doesn’t hurt X-Pro3 sales, but complements it nicely. Later in 2020, still before the summer, there will be the next X-E -series body. 6 months is usual delay with X-Tx and X-Txx models too. Then is right time to release 4.0 firmware update to X-T3 and X-T30 to give them a nice boost for the sales before the X-T3 upgrade is due by the end of 2020. And again, X-T30 upgrade six months later.
If X-Pro3 fails, and whole digital camera market takes serious hit in next few months, X-E might come out sooner. Fujifilm probably has it technically ready for launch already, but holds it for X-Pro3’s sake. But if it fails miserably, they need to move quickly to save their share on declining market. Then X-E upgrade and software boost for earlier models might come out few months earlier.
I’ve heard that the X-E line hasn’t been real successful for Fujifilm. The X-E1 was initially a hit, but then it got a bad wrap for bugs (which Fujifilm fixed via firmware updates). The X-E2 did well enough, but the X-E2s was a bust (sales wise). The X-E3 has been only so-so. I don’t have any inside information, this is what I’ve heard, so I could be wrong. But I believe Fujifilm has flirted with axing the X-E line, so it’s quite possible that an X-E5 doesn’t happen anytime soon, if at all. I hope I’m wrong, because I really like the X-E line. My first Fujifilm camera was an X-E1.

Perfect form factor. Great sensor, fast AF and an extremely useful joystick.
But most of all, it’s a viewfinder camera… I don’t think it’s outdated at all

At only $600 for the body, I’ve been very tempted to pick one up. It’s really a great bargain!
Do you still think the x-t30 will eventually get the new film simulation or do you think it will never come to that camera?
I don’t have any inside information, but I do believe that Classic Negative will eventually be added to the X-T3 and X-T30, and some or all of the new X-Pro3 features, too. I’ve been wrong before, though, so take it for what it’s worth. Fujirumors, which is rarely wrong, still seems to think it will happen at some point.
