What I’ve Been Working On (New Film Simulation Recipes Coming Soon!)

The Fuji X Weekly blog keeps me busy!

I haven’t posted anything in several days, but that doesn’t mean I’m not working hard. I have in the works right now five new film simulation recipes that will be ready to publish soon (plus another five that I’m working on, but aren’t ready to publish, plus about 20 on a to-do list). I’ve included a sample picture of each new recipe down below, just as a teaser. I also have two product reviews (one camera and one lens) that are in the early stages of writing; reviews always take a lot of time to complete. Besides that, I’ve been working on some other changes to the blog, which you’ll begin seeing soon (and maybe you’ve already noticed a few). Some of these changes will be bigger than others, and hopefully they will make the Fuji X Weekly experience better in some way.

Even though it might seem quiet, there’s so much going on behind the scenes right now. It’s what keeps the blog moving forward. Good things are coming! I appreciate all of you and I’m honored to have you as a part of this thing. Your support is invaluable to me. The Fujifilm community really is the best!

Now, the teaser pictures! Below are a quick sampling of five new film simulation recipes that will be coming soon.

B&W Superia”

Which one of these five are you most looking forward to? Let me know in the comments!

    most curious about Agfa Vista 100; looks promising and different;

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 7, 2020

That one is going to be an instant favorite, I think.

  3. Doug · September 7, 2020

    Kodachrome 1 looks promising

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 7, 2020

It’s basically a revisit of Vintage Kodachrome. Very interesting results.

  4. thedullchannel · September 7, 2020

Vista 100 and B&W Superia look interesting. I hope they can be adapted to X-Trans III sensors.

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 7, 2020

Thank you! There are some recipes compatible with X-Trans III in the works, but neither of those two are. Sorry.

      • thedullchannel · September 8, 2020

I feel like you make me buy the X100V some day 😉 Although I still have hope for the an XE-4…

      • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

I hope an X-E4 is in the works from Fujifilm. Maybe in 2021?

  5. Emmanuel · September 7, 2020

Agfa Vista 100 for sure !

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 7, 2020

Thanks! I think a lot of people will like that one.

  6. marylscaia · September 7, 2020

I’m looking forward to Agfa Vista 100!

  7. Amanda Edwards · September 7, 2020

B&W Superia. Would this work for XT3? I’d love a TMax 400 film simulation or FP4 as used to use those films.

  8. Stefan Hirtz · September 7, 2020

They all look delicious, Ritchie! 🙂
I’m especially excited about the Agfa Vista 100 and the Bright Summer recipe.

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

Thanks! Those two seem to be generating the most interest.

  9. Sergey · September 7, 2020

Kodachrome 1 and Agfa Vista 100

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

Those two will be popular, I’m sure. They’re both very nice. Thanks!

  10. Dia Khalil · September 7, 2020

    Kodachrome 1 for sure

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

Thanks! It’s basically Vintage Kodachrome revisited.

  11. Rudi Pickering · September 7, 2020

The Kodachrome II is my favourite recipe so far, so Ill definitely be making room to play with Kodachrome I, 7 custom slots just isn’t enough!

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

      7 isn’t enough, is it? You’ll like Kodachrome 1, I’m sure!

  12. Dana · September 8, 2020

    That Kodachrome looks special!

  13. v.a. · September 8, 2020

    It depends… 🙂
If a person uses older camera – non-Classic Negative based simulations are more interesting 😀
Anyhow I am voting for Vista, Kodachrome and Superia.

    • ozkan · September 8, 2020

It would be nice if something like Fujicolor Superia 800 or something similar could be used for the X-T3. Since many do not have the Classic Neg base

      Thanks 🙂

      • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

I still am holding out hope that Fujifilm will add Classic Negative to the X-T3, but it seems less and less likely.

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

Those will be fun! Vista uses Classic Negative.

I die hard fan of your Vintage Kodachrome. Looking forward to the Kodachrome 1 and Agfa 100.

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

If you like Vintage Kodachrome, you’ll appreciate Kodachrome 1. The Agfa recipe is a good one, too.

  16. Josh Seiler · September 8, 2020

    Bright Summer definetly!!!

  17. Enrique · September 8, 2020

Agfa Vista and Kodachrome 1 are sure winners! Great for landscape and nature. Will X-Trans III will have a chance?

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

I have some things in the works for X-Trans III, but none of these are specifically for it, although a couple could possibly work.

  18. bastien · September 8, 2020

Bright summer and Kodachrome 1 here! 🙂
Can’t wait to see the changes, your website and work are a great source of inspiration, and I feel like it’s becoming something big (did you see Omar Gonzales Photography’s last video? Hilarious as always, and he talks about your work). It is totally deserved, bravo!

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

I did see his video! I’m very honored to be mentioned. More on that soon.
Bright Summer and Kodachrome 1 seem to have generated a good deal of interest.

  19. Neil C Ford · September 8, 2020

    B&W Superia, as I mainly shoot B&W already. 😀

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

It’s an interesting one, I hope you like it!

  20. Fucksia · September 8, 2020

    Bright Summer!

  21. Vernon Szalacha · September 8, 2020

Great job as always. I use your Vintage Kodachrome preset almost exclusively. I can’t help but wish there was a Kodachrome that emulated the style of Steve McCurry or Alex Webb.

Is there any chance you’ll work on a Provia simulations that looks something like this? https://www.flickr.com/photos/palikalsi/38207777222/ + https://www.flickr.com/photos/lylevincent/5196488851/

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

If you like Vintage Kodachrome, you’ll like Kodachrome 1. I’ve been wanting to tackle Provia 100F. It’s on my to-do list. My X100V Kodachrome 64 recipe is the closest to McCurry or Webb. Thanks for the input!

  22. Bruno CATTAN · September 8, 2020

Definitely Bright Summer and Kodachrome 1

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

Thanks! Those two seem to be generating a lot of interest.

It’s a pity you don’t have a donate button! I’d certainly donate to
this fantastic blog! I suppose for now i’ll settle for bookmarking and adding your RSS feed
to my Google account. I look forward to brand new updates and will share this
blog with my Facebook group. Talk soon!

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

I do have a donate button, usually at the bottom of the different recipes. But I’m just glad that you’re here, so no worries. Welcome!

  24. David · September 8, 2020

How easy or hard is it to put these settings into the camera? Are they then saved to the film simulation settings for future selection?

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

Look for “Edit/Save Custom Settings” in the menu. It’s not too difficult to set up.

  25. Jason Phang · September 8, 2020

Bright Summer. Awesome teaser. I’m keen to see more. Thank you.

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

Bright Summer has generated a lot of interest. Look for it soon!

  26. Chad Petroff · September 8, 2020

They all look great… you’re awesome bro.

  27. sirmarlondenon · September 9, 2020

Agfa Vista for sure and Kodachrome 1

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 9, 2020

Those two will be fan favorites, I’m sure! Thanks!

  28. Jennifer · September 9, 2020

Kodachrome love the colors and the perfect blue in the background

  29. eksmaan · September 10, 2020

Dude. So excited for that Bright Summer and B+ W Superia 😃

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 10, 2020

I think both of those will be well received. Thanks!

  30. digoburato · September 10, 2020

Bright Summer, please? I need that preset in my life 😂
Is this preset similar to this?
    https://www.instagram.com/p/CBFgBg2FKTb/

I’ve been trying to create these colors …I even asked the guy from this ig account but he never replies about his editing process. He uses a xpro 3 and the bright summer you shared here give me hope. It looks similar somehow..

    • digoburato · September 10, 2020

When bright summer will be available by the way? Thank you Ritchie

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 10, 2020

It is inspired by Preet! Someone asked me to make a recipe similar to his pictures, and so I did! I reached out to Preet, and he answered. He edits RAW in Lightroom. He says he plans to sell Lightroom presets soon. I showed him my pictures and asked if he’d be interested in the JPEG recipe, and he answered that he doesn’t shoot JPEG only RAW so no thanks.

  31. Michael Forbes · September 10, 2020

    Afga 100 & B+W Superia

  32. Khürt Williams · September 11, 2020

I love the look of “Bright Summer”.

  33. Jordan · September 12, 2020

    VISTA! Looks amazing

  34. A Allen · September 12, 2020

Bring’em on! Loving the Agfa Vista and Koda 1.

  35. RANDALL D FORCE · September 16, 2020

+ 1 for the Agfa. Compared to Kodak and Fujifilm “ back in the day (70’s, 80’s and 90’s), Agfa had a distinctive subdued rendition. It was often referred to as a European palette. That would be a lovely recipe indeed.

    • Ritchie Roesch · September 18, 2020

Thanks! You’ll love this recipe, it looks great!
