Fujifilm X100V Film Simulation Recipe: Agfa Vista 100

Daisies at the Dock – Big Arm, MT – Fujifilm X100V – “Agfa Vista 100”

In the film era, Agfa was not as big as Fujifilm or especially Kodak, but they were popular nonetheless, particularly in Europe. Vista 100 was a general purpose color negative film made by Agfa between 2001 and 2005. It was preceded by Agfacolor HDC+ 100, which produced similar (but not identical) results. There were two films, AgfaPhoto Vista 100 and AgfaPhoto Vista Plus 100, that were manufactured for a time, neither of which are the same emulsion as Agfa Vista 100. Similar names, different films.

This Agfa Vista 100 film simulation recipe came about after someone asked for settings similar to an Agfa Vista 100 Lightroom preset. It was sample pictures from that preset that I most consulted for this recipe, but I did look at examples of the film that I found online. This recipe produces results similar to the film, but is closer to the preset than the film. This might be more similar to Agfa Vista 200, which had a bit more saturation, contrast and grain; really, it’s in the ballpark of both the ISO 100 and 200 versions of the film, as they’re both pretty close to each other.

Newstand – Polson, MT – Fujifilm X100V – “Agfa Vista 100”

Because this requires the Classic Negative film simulation, as well as Clarity (which will slow your camera down, unfortunately) and Color Chrome Effect Blue, this film simulation recipe is only compatible (as of this writing) with the Fujifilm X100V, X-T4 and X-Pro3. I think many of you are going to really appreciate this recipe and it will be an instant favorite for some of you.

Dynamic Range: DR200
Highlight: +1
Shadow: -2

Noise Reduction: -4

Excellent, Ritchie. I swear I was looking forward to this recipe and of course it will occupy one of my 7 custom settings on the X100V.

Now I just wait for your recipe for Superia 100 to reach my spiritual balance 😀.

A hug and thank you for always sharing your work and time with the Fuji community!

Yes! Was waiting on this one. Looks to work well on landscapes and cityscapes per your shots here.

Can you please stop producing such excellent film simulations! It’s a nightmare trying to choose what to put on my x100V preset list!! But in all seriousness- keep up the good work. You’re an absolute legend.

Hey, do you know you can use FUJI RAW STUDIO and record all the profile you whant? With exactly the same presets as in you camera? So, put your top top top favorites in your X100V and the others in FRS. That’s what I do 🙂

I like the look of this simulation! I used to shoot a lot of Agfa film.
    I have an xt 30.
Is there an Agfa sim for the xt30 that’s close to this new one for the 100v?

    Cheers!

I don’t, but I’ll try to work on one. Not sure if i’ll be successful or not, but I will try.

Hi! big fan of your work, I have an xf10… is there a way to get similiar results with my camera? sorry for my english, isn’t my native language.

    • Ritchie Roesch · October 5, 2020

Hi! Unfortunately, no, because the XF10 doesn’t have several of the necessary settings, especially Classic Negative. Sorry.

Hey, I love the look of this one. but unfortunetly my x-t30 doesn’t have Classic Neg film simulation.
could you please share the raw files too?
I can match them to the jpegs in capture one which supports classic neg for x-t30 & save your film recipe as a style. (i can share the results here too.)
love your work. keep it up.

I actually tried to make a Capture One preset for this recipe. I recently purchased Capture One because I get a lot of questions about it. I had a very hard time getting the WB, Colors and Tones to match, and in the end I couldn’t get it to 100% match. Classic Negative in Capture One is similar to Classic Negative in the camera, but it’s not a perfect match, nor is WB and the DR functions don’t translate. Unless I’m doing something wrong, which could very well be the case.
      I appreciate the comment!

      • Whumann · November 19, 2020

Yes. I know it’s not 100% the same. Good for times when you don’t know what film simulation is good for the situation though, you shoot raw & you can choose which film recipe preset is good for that photo in post-processing.
I just tried to match your X-T30 kodachrome 64 recipe in capture one & saved it as a style. It’s not 100% the same as your recipe but very close to it, so i can shoot raw & select the recipe later.
