I’ve become aware that someone has stolen my stuff. Sadly, it’s not the first time, nor will it be the last. Unfortunately, there are crooked people out there, and creatives are particularly vulnerable to having their work ripped off because we put our art out there for the world to see.
Someone is profiting from the film simulation recipes found on the Fuji X Weekly blog. I, Ritchie Roesch, created most of them. Some were co-created between myself and collaborators (friends of this blog). A few were not created by me, but I always ask for and receive permission before publishing them on this website, and I always give credit to the creator. But someone has published the recipes from this website on their own platform; this person never asked for nor received permission from me, and I was never cited or given any credit. Some of the recipes were renamed to something similar, but most were copied straight up. This person is collecting money through solicited donations and paid “premium” content. But most of this person’s content is mine. While this person doesn’t state that they created the recipes, they don’t state that they didn’t, which is downright misleading.
I put in so much time into this blog as a service to the Fujifilm community. It’s disheartening to say the least that someone has taken this work for their own financial benefit. Create your own recipes! Or, here’s a thought: cite your sources. Even better, reach out to me in the first place. What this person did is extremely underhanded and unethical and probably illegal. It’s really shameful.
If the person who did this (and they know who they are) reads this article, my hope is that they stop collecting money (profiting from other’s work without permission) and clearly cite their sources (instead of plagiarism). This person should also contact me. It’s not right what you did. There’s a right way and wrong way to do things, and you chose the wrong way. I ask you to please set things right. Be inspired by this website, but do not steal from it!
Drop a link to the “stealer”. I’m happy to call out losers via social media.
I made a content violation claim with the appropriate people, so we’ll see what comes of it. I don’t want to funnel traffic to this person from this website, so that’s why I didn’t name names. I’m hoping this situation will work itself out, and the person will do the right thing (and contact me personally).
I hope it works out the way you want.
I hope so, too. Thanks!
I appreciate the enthusiasm and support!
Am sorry to hear that. Whoever it is please stop it.
Thanks so much!
So sorry Ritchie. I’m one of the early adopters and I know the hard work that into putting this site and the wonderful together. Hopefully, the person does the right thing.
I hope so, too! I appreciate your support, thank you so much!
So why don’t you just say who it is?

I don’t want to funnel traffic from this website to it. I made a copyright violation report with the appropriate people, and I’m hoping that resolves it. I’m also hoping the person contacts me.
Hi Ritchie, I’m saddened to hear what happened, I’m a patron of your site and always look forward to your recipes and most of us who support your work can appreciate the amount of effort it must take to keep publishing everything. It’s probably a good idea to have your work copyrights stated, hopefully there is a copyright lawyer in the patron community who can help I’m not a lawyer if I was I wouldn’t hesitate to help and file a copyright infringement claim against this individual if legally appropriate.
Regards,
John Garcha

Thanks so much! I appreciate the support and encouragement! I have made a copyright complaint to the appropriate people, and I’m hoping that resolves it. We’ll see if it does.
If you know the YouTube channel please name it.
Not a YouTube channel. I did make a copyright violation complaint with the appropriate people, so I’m hoping that resolves it.
Sorry to hear that Ritchie, I hope the person does the right thing by contacting you and desisting what he’s doing. If he doesn’t then you need to escalate it further. Good luck…
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback, support and encouragement!
Hi! I am not a lawyer. But as this topic was in my interest (I have done some Capture One-styles and offered them on my website) I happened to read some copyright information. According to what I have read no film simulation or recipes or Capture One -styles or Lightroom presets have copyright. Yes, not even Fujifilm’s own film simulations. Of course the texts You have written on Your blog and for example the program code can have copyright, but not the recipes it self. This information is based on US copyright information available. There might be country specific rules, but I guess they do not vary so much. If any one know better please correct, but this is what I have understood of how copyright works. It is entirely different question what is the morale here and I despise the way such an individual works if one collects money from others work. Hopefully he/she gives credit to Your work.
I don’t doubt any of this at all. I appreciate the input! I don’t claim to have exclusive rights to the recipes, because, really, I’m trying to be helpful to people, that’s my goal. But copy-and-pasting my words without citation is plagiarism. I didn’t appreciate that, but I was going to let it slide until I realized that this person was profiting from it. Thank you for the comment!
Very disappointing to hear this news, Ritchie… but hardly surprising. We’re living in the early 1930s all over again. Social behavior reflects it. On a related note, I’m experiencing pushback and skepticism when I offer pro-bono services these days, which is just another way of saying that somebody is stealing your stuff, while I can’t seem to give mine away! Hang in there. We will get through this.
Thanks so much. We will get through this. Take care!
1. Reported app on Play Store.
2. Scathing 1 star review on Play Store
3. Reported apps developers friend on Facebook.
Hopefully others do similar. Regarding copyright, surely if the paid recipes are the same then that is a breach.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your support! Hopefully it is resolved soon.
I suggest naming and shaming if they don’t take down the recipes. It would also prevent people from being scammed out of their money for free recipes.
I appreciate it! I’m really hoping this gets resolved without the need to name-and-shame; it might come to that, but I’m really hoping it doesn’t.
if that’s what I’m thinking, they could have contacted you first and it could have been of mutual interest. it’s very bad on their part
Exactly. Contact me first, that would have been great. Even when that didn’t happen, cite the source! That was the second mistake. I was going to let that slide until I learned that the person was profiting from it. I’m trying to be a helpful resource to the Fujifilm community, and I’m all for things that are helpful, but I don’t like being trampled on.
This is disheartening to say the least. You have put so much work in, and were getting traction with the app & shout outs on Youtube. I’m hoping all good things for you Ritchie!
Thanks so much! I appreciate the support!
Not me. I contributed $ to help. Maybe the isp host can id them.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your feedback and support! Most people do things the right way and are good people and it benefits everyone. This is just one bad apple.
shame of them. if there is anything we can help just let us know.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your support!
I’m sorry to hear all this ritchie. and i hope everything will work out in the right way!! stay healthy! cheers!
Thanks so much, I appreciate your kindness and support!
Sorry to hear this, it’s obvious how much work and passion you put into your recipes and site as a whole. Wanted to give you credit on trying to handle this through the appropriate means before just calling them out by name as well. Hate to say it, but I don’t know if I could have handled it with such class if I was in your shoes.
Thanks so much, I appreciate your kind words. The situation has been resolved, so it worked out.
Ritchie, I am sorry for this. Just to make sure I can support your work, is the 20 euro (I Guess 20 USD in the US) premium FujiXWeekly app goes to support your work? Sorry if this is banal, but you have done an impressive work for the fujifilm community, just don’t want to support who doesn’t deserve that …. in the meantime, hopefully everything will work out in the right way for you ….
Yes, it goes to support what’s going on here, absolutely. Actually, there are some big things in the works, the app is just the beginning, and the app is going to get even better. Some really great things are planned, and it’s only possible because of Patrons. I appreciate the comment!
I wrote a scathing review last night but it appears this morning the stealer is doubling down. His buddy also wrote a review to bump mine and feigned ignorance by claiming he couldn’t find anything similar online. I’m furious.
The situation seems to be resolved now, so it’s all good. I appreciate it!
I find it kind of sad, hope that guy rethinks that bad move.
Thanks! The situation has been resolved, so that’s good news.
What you have given to the community and to us Fuji enthusiasts is invaluable and I’m happy you decided to make FujiXWeekly app. Now you got my subscription !
Awesome! Thank you for your support!
This really Sucks… i can’t stand thieves, i worked in security for a few years and watching other people profit was crap.
I mentioned to you a while back that i wanted to rebuild your site with you but things happened and we were unable to continue. i have since started building something else for the Fuji Comunity which i hope you will be a part of in some way shape or form.
The work you do is incredible and people who are just copying and pasting need to be brought to account.
Yeah, for sure! I’ve been incredibly busy lately, I’ve had to drop all sorts of things, but send me an email (roeschphotography@yahoo.com).
Hi Ritchie.
I moved from Sony to Fuji and my love of photography, which had been dulled by working in the biz for years, has been rekindled. I was up till 1:00 am last night finding out how deep the website is – thanks a lot! 😉
The site is a very obvious work of love and, through that, it is informative, educational and inspirational. Because of this it stands out above other sources on this somewhat esoteric topic.
I’m glad you have resolved the issues with the plagiarist. It’s commendable how you appeared to do that without resorting to name calling and retribution.
I made a small donation to show my gratitude. LZX
I appreciate your kindness, encouragement, and support! I’m just happy to be helpful, and it’s a real honor if I’m able to be. Thanks for your note!
