I have created many different Film Simulation Recipes that you can program into your Fujifilm cameras to mimic the look of different films and aesthetics. It can be difficult to know when to use each. I’m creating a series of articles called Film Simulation Reviews, which you’ll find below, that demonstrate different film simulation recipes used in various situations. Hopefully this is helpful to you, especially if you are unsure of which ones to use when.

    it seems every time I try a new recipe it becomes my “go to” recipe. Thank you for all the work you do here. In looking at my film archives I see that I used Kodak E100 VS a lot when it was out. Any chance of a recipe for that film for the X-T3 and/or X-T4? Thanks again. Love the Dramatic Classic Chrome and Kodachrome 64 and the…..

    Hi there! I was wondering if you may have tried to emulate the Fujichrome T64 stock or what may be the closest settings for an X100V. I feel like I’m close but I’m not sure.

    Current settings are:
    Film: classic negative (I tried chrome but it didn’t seem to fit)
    Grain: strong, small
    Chrome effect: strong
    Chrome blue: strong
    WB: 2500K, R +9, B +9
    DR: 100
    Tone Curve: H +4, S +2
    Color: +4
    Sharpness: +1
    Noise Reduction: -4
    Clarity: -3

    No problem! I’ve never shot the actual film stock, I’m just going off of what I see in other people’s shots and trying my best to understand what Fuji has for its datasheet.

    Hi Ritchie! I really really want to say thanks to you!.
    Just a year after I stepped into Fuji world I felt lost and stuck into Fuji recipes. But I wanted more. And I discovered your work (#art) and used it… and then I became more and more interested by what I was seeing thru the viewfinder… now I can say that you opened my eyes and my mind.. Thank you

    First of all, I must praise you and thank you for the very perfect Fuji film setup!
    Another request, is it possible to find a setup close to any Kodak or Fuji light film film, for example 5219 or the old 5279 or even 5277, an analogue like Fuji’s eterna vivid 500T?

    @Ritchie, I hope this comment finds you well.
    I own a X-E3 which I love but sometimes I wish it could have some more settings to use your recipes.
    So I turned to Capture One, and I was able to enable Fuji film sims that the X-E3 does not have.
    The issue is to get the closest simulation look with C1 or any other photo editor.
    My question would be on how to translate the recipes you kindly share with the community and basically apply them to the RAW files, using the available profiles in C1 or other and tweak “chromes”, clarity, and others…
    I am sure its not a copy&paste thing, but I guess if you can have some presets with your recipes I think it would be outstanding…!

      So Capture One (and all the other RAW editors) can apply its version of its interpretation of some (but not all) of the JPEG settings. Things like Color Chrome Effect, Color Chrome FX Blue, Grain, and Clarity will have to be manually added/manipulated. Highlight and Shadow will have to be adjusted via curves. Color and White Balance will need some fine-tuning. It’ll definitely take some effort to get the RAW to match the JPEG, and even then it won’t be 100% the same, but with enough work you can get it to be 99%.
      I actually worked with one of the top RAW editor gurus a year-and-a-half ago to try to turn the recipes into presets. It didn’t work out for several reasons, but one of them is that presets are impossible to look “right” always. It might look correct when applied to one image, but not on another. So no matter what, it will take some fiddling to get it correct. Unfortunately, I don’t have very much good advice to offer. Sorry.

        So whats left is either use Fujifilm X RAW Studio or using the base profiles in the raw editors and tweak them as needed.
        There is still much for me to experiment, and your recipes are on top of the list 😉

    New user of Fuji X Weekly, love it so far but a bit overwhelmed with the gigantic amount of recipes there are to try. Is there a place where user can/have voted on all the recipes that have been offered so far? I would like to start with those that have been tried and loved by users first…
