Weekly Photo Project, Week 52

Here it is! These pictures are the final week of this photo-a-day project, taken one week at a time for 52 weeks. It’s very hard for me to believe that it’s over, but it is also a relief, and now I can tackle some other things that I’ve been putting off. There will be one more post, which will summarize the entire project. I hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing these articles and that this has been an inspiration to you in some way.

Week 51  Conclusion

Weekly Photo Project, Week 51

I love using vintage lenses. They add character to the image. Modern lenses are great, but they are also precision engineered, which means that they lack flaws. It’s flaws that give these old lenses personality. Each picture this week was captured with an old, manual lens attached to the front of my Fujifilm X-T30.

Week 50   Week 52

Weekly Photo Project, Week 50

This week is represented by a hodgepodge of pictures. Overall these seven days were fairly productive, with the usual couple of barely-productive days thrown in. You might note that there are only two weeks left, which I’ve actually already completed, so in real time this project is finished, but I still have more to share on this blog. Expect those posts shortly, with a wrap-up article to nicely tie a bow around this whole thing.

Week 49   Week 51

Weekly Photo Project, Week 48

Unsurprisingly, this week had a few photographically productive days and a few that weren’t. That’s been a common theme of this project, and if there’s one thing that I’d like to further work on regarding all this is ensuring that each day is productive. That’s not an easy task because life pulls in so many different directions all at once. I think finding and taking advantage of the small moments tucked among all of the distractions and responsibilities is an opportunity to succeed at this, but it will take being more diligent and deliberate.

Week 47   Week 49

Weekly Photo Project, Week 47

As you can see, I’m pretty far behind getting these Weekly Photo Project posts out. I’m actually nearing completion of the project, as I have five more weeks after the one that these pictures represent. Two of those weeks have already happened, and the third will be finished tomorrow. That means, in reality, there are only two weeks left, which is just really difficult for me to imagine, yet I’m quite anxious for this to be done. The first two pictures below are textured pictures using the double-exposure feature of my Fujifilm X-T30. I included the third picture in my Diversity of Utah Landscapes article, so you’ve probably seen it before. The final four pictures are ones that I’ve yet to share.

Weekly Photo Project, Week 45

In this week you’ll see examples of four of my recent film simulation recipes: Fujicolor Industrial, Faded Color, Faded Monochrome and Redscale. As you can imagine, it was a very productive week for film simulation creation. A few of the days were particularly photographically productive, too. Perhaps more importantly, I had a number of fun adventures. Even though you’ve seen these pictures before, I hope that you will still find this set enjoyable.

Do any of you ever visit Ken Rockwell’s website? If you don’t know who that is, he’s very popular, I think mainly because he was one of the very first photography bloggers and he has strong opinions. I visit his page every now and then. Anyway, he likes to say that Fujifilm cameras are great for people pictures, but not good for other types of photography because Fujifilm cameras don’t produce vivid colors. I think if he tried my X-T30 Velvia recipe, he might change his mind on that. Fujifilm cameras are very much capable of delivering vivid color photographs right out of camera. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy this set of color images.

Weekly Photo Project, Week 38

Another week of black-and-white pictures! I captured a lot of color images this week, too, but I stuck with monochrome for this post. They’re mostly mountain pictures. The first five were captured from my yard. The last picture is the one that doesn’t match, but it was the best black-and-white image from that day, so that’s why it’s included with this set.

The theme of this week’s photographs is black-and-white. And mountains. Oh, and they were all captured with a Fujifilm X-T20. And I used a Fujinon 50-230mm lens for all of them. This was a good week photographically speaking, and I could have chosen a few different themes (or no theme at all), but this one stood out to me for some reason. I hope you enjoy!

As has been the usual since pretty much the beginning of this project, I had a couple of photographically productive days and a couple of days where I barely squeaked by. What I’m appreciating are the longer days, now that winter is coming to a close. The extra minutes of daylight are a huge asset to my photography. I look forward to the photographic opportunities that await me in the spring.

Weekly Photo Project, Week 30

This week had a few days that were a real struggle to capture even one image. The real hero was the Fujifilm XF10, which was used for five out of the seven pictures below. Without that camera, this week would have been a failure. Because it is small and lightweight, it’s easy to carry around with me. Sometimes having a camera–any camera–is much more important than what the gear is.

Week 29  Week 31

Weekly Photo Project, Week 29

This week wasn’t quite as productive as the previous week, but it was still overall a decent week of photography for me. I didn’t create any spectacular pictures, and for the most part these images will be quickly forgotten. Five of the seven pictures are of snowy mountains, which are seen from my backyard. That’s a great aspect of living in Utah. There are wonderful views all around, and I feel fortunate that I can frequently photograph the local beauty.

Weekly Photo Project, Week 28

Another week in the books! This was a particularly photographically productive week. Not every day was especially productive, obviously, but on several days I created a number of good images. You’ve seen some of them already, and others will be shared in the coming weeks in various articles.

Week 27  Week 29

Weekly Photo Project, Week 27

After a short intermission, I’m back on track with my photo-a-day challenge, where I’m trying to capture at least one picture each day for a year, taking things one week at a time. I’ve shifted my week slightly, going Sunday through Saturday instead of Monday through Sunday. In 2018, starting out on Monday made sense with the flow of my week, but things have changed slightly this year, and so starting out on Sunday works well with how things are now.

You might notice that I have two different themes this week: monochrome and location. All of these pictures are black-and-white and they were all captured at or very near my home. You don’t have to go far to find interesting things to photograph. Sometimes you don’t even need to leave your home. Look for what’s right around you, wherever you happen to be. I chose monochrome simply because I had captured a number of black-and-white pictures this week, and decided to keep things consistent. I hope you enjoy!

Week 26  Week 28

Weekly Photo Project, Week 26

I made it to the halfway point without missing a single day! That’s a big accomplishment, but I feel exhausted by this project. It has taken its toll at times. There are days when it takes a lot of mental effort to capture even one image. One thing that I wish I’d done different, and it’s what I would recommend for those who want to undertake a photo-a-day project, is to schedule breaks periodically. I wish that, say, once per quarter I had a week scheduled off. It’s not that I wouldn’t do any photography during that week, but only I wouldn’t have to do photography during that week if I didn’t want to. Still, it feels great to reach the midpoint, and it seems worthy of celebration.

Week 25 Week 27

Weekly Photo Project, Week 25

It’s very hard to believe that I’m almost halfway done with this project! I haven’t missed a single day yet, although only by the skin of my teeth. That was true this week, as I barely made it on more than one day. While I did capture a couple decent pictures, this overall wasn’t a particularly productive photographic period. Moving forward I need to ensure that I’m dedicating myself more to this effort.

Week 24  Week 26

Weekly Photo Project, Week 24

I had a couple of photographically productive days this week, plus a bunch that were not. Still, I managed to capture at least one image each day, which is the goal of this project. I’m still working on the quality side of things. I don’t want to capture a thoughtless snapshot just to have an image, which I’ve done several times since I started this 365 challenge. I want each day to be represented by a good picture, which I’m attempting to do better at. I still have plenty of room for improvement. I hope that you enjoy these pictures!

Week 22  Week 24

Weekly Photo Project, Week 22

There’s an advantage and disadvantage to doing a photo-a-day project like this. The disadvantage is that it can be difficult and exhausting. There were a couple of days during this week that I wanted to stop. I had so much going on with the holiday season, and the weather is cold and the daylight is short, so making time for photography seemed unnecessary. It’s easy to make excuses, but it’s important to not allow them to stop us from achieving our goals. The advantage to doing a 365 project is that, because I forced myself to capture some images when I didn’t want to, I was able to create some pictures that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise. I can clearly see the benefit as I look back at the pictures I’ve captured over the last five months. The advantage significantly outweighs the disadvantage, and so I persevere, still on track going into the new year.
