These film simulation recipes are intended for Fujifilm X-Trans II cameras, such as the X100S, X100T, X-E2, X-E2S, X-T1, X-T10, X70, X20, X30, XQ1, and XQ2. Not all of these recipes are compatible with every X-Trans II camera, because some of the older X-Trans II models don’t have all of the film simulations that later ones have. Some of these recipes will work on X-Trans I and Bayer cameras with slightly different results. Feel free to try X-Trans I, EXR-CMOS and Bayer recipes on your X-Trans II camera, although results will be slightly different.

For some reason my X-T1 does not have color settings such as adjusting red or blue as suggested in this post. Currently running latest firmware.

Aahh, there’s the (unfortunate) answer: “Most Fujifilm cameras do not have the ability to save White Balance Shifts within Custom Presets. Most of my Film Simulation Recipes require a Shift, yet you cannot save the Shift, so each time you change Recipes you must manually adjust the Shift.”
Yeah, it’s too bad. It doesn’t make it impossible, just a bit inconvenient, unfortunately.
On my XT-1, I saved two presets and it looks like the white balance shift saved between them.
I am not sure if fuji did an update or its placebo effect? I hope i haven’t missed some colour corrections when shooting between two presets? If someone can confirm?
Are they different WB Types (Auto and Daylight, for example)? The camera will remember one WB Shift per WB type. If they are the same WB Type (e.g. both Auto), I bet if you switch back-and-forth between them you’ll see that the WB Shift is the same and not different.
ah yeah, it doesn’t save if using the same WB. I had another type of WB set so that one was fixed, but using the same WB for different recipes would mean i’d need to remember the colour adjustment each time.

I write the simulations in Notes on my phone. Trans iii like X-T2 I write the r+b on the of the description

I have the same problem. When I enter the menu to adjust the custom settings and I reach white balance, I can only choose between Auto and so on, but I cannot adjust the blue or the red specifically.

You can’t adjust the red and blue when you’re editing/creating a custom setting, you need to back out of there and go into IQ White Balance where you can arrow right and make the adjustments to the red and blue. Basically the Red/Blue adjustment happens outside of the custom setting at the White Balance stage, so if you’re switching between custom settings you might want to check your white balance settings are right on. Just like you need to do with the exposure settings when jumping between custom settings.
So love these recipes, would you do some handbook or pocket book that have some recipes for certain fuju camera? I would love to buy and support if you consider to make some!

Hi Richie, many people seem to love the X-trans II sensor because of the filmic and slightly warmer look. I think about buying a x100t. The x100v is too expensive for me. What do you think about this camera? Currently I shoot with a 6D mark ii and an xf10. Will it be very different from the xf10 as far as Image quality is concerned? Regards Lars
The X100T will be similar to the XF10. The X100T is a higher-end model than the XF10, but also older. I think image quality will be pretty similar, but not identical. If you like the XF10, I imagine that you’ll equally like the X100T, and perhaps enjoy it a little more than the XF10. I hope this is helpful.
Hello richie…i am a high school student and i am planning to buy my first camera and i am choosing fujifilm because of its simulations. I am contemplating between an x70,xf10 or x100T others are too expensive for me as my range is 600 usd at max…i want a compact cmaera for family portraits,events and trips as well. Iwould like your opininon on it which should i choose to get the best pics straight out of camera…i would be really grateful and you have done amazing work.
Of those three, I would choose the X100T. However, I would look at the X-T20 or X-E3 as a potentially better alternative. Interestingly, Omar Gonzalez (a popular YouTuber) uses an X-T20 even in 2025. Considering that he has access to much higher-end gear, that says a lot. I hope this helps!

Just recently stumbled across your site and when I saw your images I couldnt resist – I had to try them:) So I dusted my trusty X-E2S and started shooting. I cant remember the last time i had so much fun trying different simulations for different scenarios and the results – they are all amazing. You brought the joy of photography to my life again and for that I am grateful 🙂 Maybe one question: Are you planning to create a Portra 400 recipe for Trans II sensor?? That one brings so many memories. I have tried to recreate it myself, but the settings still elude me. Thank you for all your work and I am so excited to see new recipes.

I haven’t has any success for a Portra 400 Recipe, but definitely try Kodachrome II for a 60’s-70’s look.

My go-to recipe for X-Trans II is actually the Bayer Classic Chrome recipe. For overcast, try the original Classic Chrome recipe for X-Trans II.

What film simulation i can use instead classic chrome . Cause my x100s , have not this simulation.
There are 27 X-Trans II recipes, and “only” 9 use Classic Chrome, so you have several to choose from. I’d recommend looking at these two:

X-Trans II is a little warmer. Highlight isn’t identical, and the curve in general is slightly different. Obviously X-Trans II is missing a number of options found on the newer cameras. I think for some recipes you can get close, and for others it’s not as possible.

Saving film simulation, I have googled it but it asks for the IQ menu but I don’t seem to have it on the x100s
Press the Menu/OK button, and the first couple of pages are the IQ subset. I think about page 72 in your owner’s manual is where you’ll want to look.
Why can’t save while balance in my XT10 for Custom Setting
Only X-Trans IV (minus the X-T3 and X-T30, which cannot) and X-Trans V can. Fujifilm never gave this ability to X-Trans I, II, or III cameras.

A late reply, I know, but regarding saving the R, B colour balance you have to do it before going to the preset menu and creating the recipe. That way the current colour balance is saved with the recipe! That’s how it works on the X-T10.
The camera won’t, unfortunately, save multiple WB Shifts with the same WB type. For example, if you saved C1 with Auto +2R & -2B, and then later set C2 with Auto +1R & -2B, when you go back to C1 you will see that the Red Shift is now +1R and not +2R. The camera will only remember one WB Shift per WB type, and there’s no getting around that, unfortunately. I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying, but it never works. Try it yourself, and you’ll see exactly what I’m describing.
Only X-Trans IV (except for the X-T3 and X-T30) or V can.

Ahh, my bad, I should have noticed hence why you tried to use a different WB setting for each of the simulations. It’s going to have to rely on my own memory to change the R and B each time lol.
I wish Fujifilm would fix that with a firmware update. The cameras are likely too “old” for them to even think about it, but it would be nice if they did.
I love these! Thank you for the resource- is there any chance for a recipe that mimics Vibrant Arizona but for the XQ1? I know it’s missing classic chrome- I would love if there was a way to use a similar recipe!

On X100T (and probably also other X-Trans II cameras) there is no possibility to save White Balance shifts on the same white balance option, as someone else pointed out in the comments, so we can basically save just one preset for white balance option (1 for auto, 1 for daylight etc. etc.)
I was thinking, are you able to provide a “conversion shift” for the White Balances using the less common used? For example, a daylight can be replaced with a fluorescent or a shade with -X R +Y B
I know it is not easy to find perfect equivalence, but it will be really help the owners of these cameras!
There is some crossover. I do believe that a conversion sheet could be helpful… when I have some free time, I might just look into that. I appreciate the suggestion!

Great list! I’m looking for a Ricoh GRII positive film recipe for my X-E2, or tips on what exactly to tune for, as I do not own a Ricoh GRII myself, but really enjoy it’s images. Any thoughts?
Classic Chrome is probably the closest Film Simulation to Positive Film. Interestingly enough, Positive Film isn’t exactly the same on the GR/GR II compared to the GR III (and presumably GR IV). As far which Recipes are most alike, maybe look at Kodachrome II as the most similar to Color Chrome; Kodak Portra 160 is the most similar to Color Negative. I hope this helps!

There are some similarities between Reala Ace and PRO Neg Std/Hi, but I think the limited settings options of X-Trans II will make it more difficult to achieve. I can certainly look into it when I get the chance, though.
