AgfaChrome RSX II 200 Expired — A Film Simulation Recipe for 5th-Gen Fujifilm Cameras

Time for Meadow Gold – Tulsa, OK – Fujifilm X-E5 – AgfaChrome RSX II 200 Expired

This new Fujifilm Recipe comes courtesy of Thomas Schwab, who has created or co-created a number of wonderful Recipes on this website, including several that are personal favorites of mine. It’s a real honor to publish another: AgfaChrome RSX II 200 Expired. Thank you for allowing me to share it on Fuji X Weekly!

While this Recipe was a collaboration between the two of us, I only contributed a small amount, so I want to give Thomas the credit. He was specifically aiming for a grainy, desaturated, film-like look, yet he wanted it to be versatile—a good option for portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, and street—especially during Germany’s rainy autumn months, but also on sunny days, and even in artificial light and at night. Essentially, this needed to be a highly stylized Recipe that could do it all. Thomas was initially inspired by the “et b St.10” Recipe by Kazuki Matsunaga, but modified it to better suite his style, subjects, and situations. I would call this a variant of Kazuki’a Recipe, with a number of notable modifications; however, the core idea basically remains, so I want to give a shout-out to him and provide a link to his Recipe so you can find the original.

Red Church Doors – Springfield, MO – Fujifilm X-E5 – AgfaChrome RSX II 200 Expired

We named this “AgfaChrome RSX II 200 Expired” because we discovered some examples of AgfaChrome RSX II 200 slide film that was shot about two decades after its expiration, which had a similar aesthetic to this Recipe. Agfa made RSX II 200 from 1998 to 2005. Regarding the pictures that were similar, I believe (although this is merely a guess) that the film was stored incorrectly, perhaps left in a hot car before development. Whatever the case, this Recipe is not representative of “normal” AgfaChrome RSX II 200 film, and is more of a “lomo” look. This AgfaChrome RSX II 200 Expired Recipe is compatible with fifth-generation Fujifilm cameras, which are the X-H2s, X-H2, X-T5, X-S20, X100VI, X-T50, X-M5, X-E5, X-T30 III, GFX100 II, GFX100S II, and GFX100RF. You can also use it on the X-T4, X-S10, X-E4, X-T30 II, and GFX100S, but it will look very slightly different (try it anyway).
